Grades 7 – 12 Course Descriptions
Please note the grade level for each class next to the title of the course — NOT all courses on this page are available for the entire grade range covered. Some classes span a wide range of ages.

BLOCK 1 COURSES: 10am – 11am
Great Escape (Gr. 7-12)
Get ready to break out of boring! In this 10-week class, students will take on a brand-new escape room challenge each week. Each room is packed with puzzles, riddles, clues, and teamwork-based missions designed to stretch their logic, creativity, and collaboration skills. Whether cracking codes, solving mysteries, or racing against the clock, each escape brings a fresh theme and a new adventure.
Perfect for students who love critical thinking, working with others, and a little friendly competition. Can your team make The Great Escape?

Brick Engineering (K+)
In this hands-on engineering class, students will use bricks to explore how the world works through building and experimentation. Each week, learners construct models that introduce real STEM concepts such as force, motion, friction, energy, and simple machines. Students test their builds, make predictions, solve challenges, and learn to think like young engineers. Perfect for brick builders who love to explore how things work! All ages are welcome.
Please note – there is no programming / coding in this series.

BLOCK 2 COURSES: 11am – 12noon
Art Show (Gr. 4+)
Students will pick and choose from simple video tutorials to create showcase artwork pieces that will be sold at our live auction art show at the end of the semester. Students will work with the teachers to decide on art projects and teacher will guide, encourage and provide art supplies as needed. Students are expected to make several art pieces on canvas, as well as other mediums TBD (such as: card set, magnets, etc.) Students will receive their own watercolor palette, some brushes, black markers and pencils to keep that is covered by their course fee. Other supplies will be provided as needed (canvases, etc.) and will exceed the fees paid for the course with the expectation that NLHG will retain these pieces to use for our fundraising show.
Students will also partner with students in our Digital Basics class to create digital graphics and merch for a mock business.
The pre-requisite for this class is a genuine interest in art.

Digital Basics: Professional Portfolio (Gr. 7-12)
This course teaches essential computer skills while students build an employment and entrepeneurial portfolio. Students will complete two major projects. First, students will be guided through building a professional portfolio for job hunting build a professional portfolio including resume and cover letter. In the latter half of the semester, students will partner with the Art Show class to create a mock business and a presentation “pitch”. These projects will serve as the foundation to learning computer basics such as word processing, spreadsheets, powerpoint, pdf, graphic design, ai, and cloud vs. local saving.
This course will also have a lesson covering internet safety.
Students are required to have a basic functioning laptop that they can bring to class.

BLOCK 3 COURSES: 1pm – 2pm
Novel Study (Gr. 4-12)
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl are two unforgettable stories—and this combined novel study set brings both to life in your homeschool. Each study includes thoughtful comprehension questions, vocabulary building, and grammar-infused copywork, along with engaging writing exercises that help your child connect deeply with characters, themes, and rich literary worlds.
Students will receive a copy of the book, included in the class fee.

Bible Study (Gr. 7-12)
This is a Bible Study class for teens to deepen their understanding of Jesus.

Sewing: Bag Making (Gr. 3+)
This sewing course will concentrate on the skill of bag making.
*The pre-requisite for this course is Sewing I & Sewing II or relevant experience.

BLOCK 3 COURSES: 2pm – 3pm
Guild Rehearsals: NLHG Presents ‘The Easter Story’ (Gr. K+)
In this course, everyone will come together to create, rehearse and perform a “shadow tableau” presentation of The Easter Story. The performance will be a combination of shadow play / puppetry, and tableau style drama. Roles will be found for everyone: tableau actors, props, sound effects, lighting, writing, narration, music, and direction.
We will perform our version of The Easter Story at a showcase event at the end of the semester to raise funds for the co-op. The date and time of this event are TBD and we will make every effort to coordinate with everyone involved. Because this class is part of a fundraiser, there will be no charge to participate.
Pre-K and K students can join this class with as long as a parent attends the class with them.
